Bifunctional catalysts for heterogeneous electro-Fenton processes: a review

چکیده

Abstract Fenton processes allow to degrade and mineralize toxic organic contaminants, yet classical require continuously adding hydrogen peroxide ferrous ions, costly solution pH adjustment, treatment of secondary iron sludge pollution. Heterogeneous electro-Fenton deliver oxidizing radicals with only oxygen electricity consumed. Bifunctional catalysts the synthesis activation simultaneously, eliminate additional chemical reagents, yield no metal residues in treated water. Here, we review bifunctional for heterogeneous processes. We describe mechanisms radical generation from oxygen. Then, compare different types based on their elemental compositions: (1) metal/carbon composite catalysts, i.e., monometallic iron/carbon bimetallic/trimetallic carbon transition single-atom catalysts; (2) without carbon; (3) metal-free catalysts. present five other approaches beyond electrocatalysts, which have been used improve performance

Application of the Electro-Fenton Process Including Fe+2 and Fe+3 Heterogeneous Catalysts to Remove Ciprofloxacin from Aqueous Solutions

Background and Objectives: Ciprofloxacin is an emerging and degradable pollutant that cannot be efficiently removed by common water and wastewater treatment processes. Electro-Fenton process is one of the most effective processes for the treatment of these compounds. Hence, the present study aimed to remove ciprofloxacin by Electro-Fenton method with heterogeneous catalysts, Fe+2 and Fe+3. Mat...

Electrochemical treatment of Acid Red 1 by electro-Fenton and photoelectro-Fenton processes

Small volumes (100 mL) of acidic aqueous solutions with 30-200 mg L TOC of the toxic azo dye Acid Red 1 (AR1) have been comparatively treated by various electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs). The electrolytic system consisted of a BDD anode able to produce OH and an air-diffusion cathode that generated H2O2, which subsequently reacted with added Fe to yield additional OH from Fen...
